This collection comprises music scores (at least 118 titles) of works composed by Willow Macky (1957-1993) with several by other composers with words by her. There is a sizeable amount of correspondence (1948-1996), newsletters, programmes, newsclippings (1938-1995), papers relating to songs, poems (1925-1938), working notes (1960-1990). printed matter (1936-1994), royalty statements and agreements with publishers (1961-1995), cards (1977-1996), subject files (1916-1994), biographical information (1965-1990) and bibliographies of her works (1937-1991). The collection has been reorganised into ten series and includes sound recordings in various formats, many unidentified. Part of the Archive of New Zealand Music.

Jean Batten was born on 15 September 1909 in Rotorua, New Zealand. She and her mother moved from New Zealand to Britain in 1930 where Batten immediately pursued her ambition of learning to fly. In 1934, she flew solo from England to Australia in 14 days, 22½ hours, shattering Amy Johnson’s record by four days and becoming a world celebrity.
